肥宝渴望与指腹为婚的朱女结合,但朱父贪财,欲以朱女许配富家子史公子。为筹措聘金，肥宝日夜工作。在夜间工作中，遇女鬼小红，知道她为事奉失明母亲，始留世间，大受感动，收留母女于家中。小海说服女鬼色诱史公子，为史父发觉，向肥宝师父--茅道士九叔--质询。九叔决意收留，与肥宝闹翻。为助儿子争夺朱女，史父用巫术对付肥宝，为九叔阻止，最后反误害了自己儿子。史父为子复仇，乘肥宝婚宴夜，向村人落蛊，并要以朱女交换解药。结果史父与九叔展开茅山、巫术决斗；九叔战用，产除史父，救回村民。
